A mensagem que o profeta Jeremias falou a Baruque, filho de Nerias, quando ele escreveu estas palavras em um livro, ditadas por Jeremias, no quarto ano de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, dizendo:

“Assim diz o SENHOR, o Deus de Israel, a você, Baruque:

‘Você disse: “Ai de mim agora! Pois o SENHOR acrescentou tristeza à minha dor! Estou cansado do meu gemido, e não encontro descanso.”’

“Você dirá a ele: Assim diz o SENHOR: ‘Eis que aquilo que edifiquei, eu derrubarei, e aquilo que plantei, eu arrancarei; e isso em toda a terra.
5
Você busca grandes coisas para si mesmo? Não as busque; pois, eis que trarei o mal sobre toda a carne’, diz o SENHOR, ‘mas eu deixarei que você escape com vida por onde quer que vá.’”

The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch;

Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the LORD hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.

¶ Thus shalt thou say unto him, The LORD saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.

And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the LORD: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
